in the EUPHEMIA lab, N-SIDE provided support to redesign a bidding product called “Complex Order” to improve algorithmic performance and expressiveness for market parties. We also provided innovative models to operate an “LTA inclusion” process within EUPHEMIA, by which the network model is enlarged to ensure that congestion rents cover liabilities to Financial Transmission Rights (FTR). N-SIDE also provides market and algorithm design expertise to support the transition to 15 Market Time Units in European day-ahead markets.
N-SIDE market design services were used in the development of the Dynamic Reserve Dimensioning solution for Elia. Feedback from stakeholders (regulators, market participants) were addressed together with Elia in order to design a bullet-proof solution based on K-NN and K-Means machine learning algorithms and Monte Carlo simulations. This results in better system reliability and in savings of reservations costs up to 2.5M€.
N-SIDE created a multi-area balancing capacity dimensioning solution for this TSO. A tailor-made FRR dimensioning methodology based on mixed integer linear programming was designed and tested in a real-size test case. This methodology is the first one in Europe to explicitly integrate transmission constraints within the reserve sizing process. The explicit integration of imbalance netting and reserve sharing at the dimensioning stage results in large savings in overall reserve needs, compared to independent dimensioning for each LFC area.
